Ciao
Saluti,
Desidero per chiedere scusa per non scrivere Italiano.
Once again I am sorry for writing this in English but I don't speak much Italian right now. I am taking some lessons and hopefully I will be able to in the near future.
My name is Dylan and I come from Chicago,Illinois which is inside the United States of America. I am living/working in Genova until January and I would love to continue climbing while I am here. I have heard from people back in Chicago that the climbing in Italy is not only some of the best technically but also some of the most beautiful.
I have almost all my gear here in Genova with me. I have two harnesses, two pairs of shoes, A full set of protection, assorted webbing but I need to buy a rope because it was to big to bring. Where would you recommend I buy a rope here in Italy? I am looking for a 60m dry core rope but I am also open to suggestions based on the type of climbing in my area.
Also where you recommend I try climbing in Italy? The difficulty of climbing I am looking for is 5.7 to 5.10 on the YDS or 5 to 6+a on the French scale. Also, I need to be able to get there using public transportation because I don't own a car or scooter. I have no ice climbing experiance but I am open to trying it if I can have someone that is experianced come with me.
If anyone wants to come climbing with me or is planning any trips in the Genoa area let me know. I do plan on visiting Final Liguria with some of the people I work with as soon as I get a rope.
I look forward to meeting you in person.
Dylan Connor

hi Dylan,
I'm not a climber but.. to buy a rope you can try different shops:
Repetto Sport in Genova Prà ins a good shop for climbing, hiking and so on.
Decathlon (a big shops with a lot of stuff related to sports... here you can found also some stuff)
For transport: in about one hour you can reach finale ligure by train.. but I don't know if is possible to reach the start point for climbing
I hope this information are useful for you, and sorry for my bad and poor english!
bye

hi !
welcome first of all, both in Italy and in Quotazero.
Quickly, Finale is the best even if thre're some other intersting places closer. But better is that you hold with someone in the forum, I'm sure you'll find lot of people. Shops in Genoa, well Repetto is sure the best, closer to downtown is Longo Sport Via Jori Germano, 210/R tel 010 6423714, Longoni Via Pisa, 12
tel 010 3620357 or BM Sport VIA PRE' 101/R tel: 010/2465912 just behind the central harbor area.
Just an hints for the rope: in Finale better 70 meters than 60
Sometimes we organize hinking on Sunday (but non only), if you agree you can reach us for this, stay tuned!!

YDS = Yosemite Decimal System, it is the only rating system used in the United States. I have a nice website that shows the conversions http://home.tiscalinet.de/ockier/ratings.htm but it is in Englishrikkytikkytavi wrote: Now someone will explain me the YDS,I haven't understood anything!!

For a reason unknown to me the United States always has to use a diffrent system. Are climbs in Italy rated according to the French system?

Concerning the rope, i suggest you to buy a 70 meters one, because in Finale Ligure, which is one of the most important, large and beautifull places for free climbing in Italy, (and that is near Genova), and also in a lot of other places where it is possible, new routes are often up to 35 meters....
Repetto sport is a good shop here in Genova.
If you will be here next september, you can go to "Sciorba" to train yourself, www.sciorba.it, there il will be easier for you to find someone to go climbing...

sorry, how you can understand, my english is not very good......
